I can't believe there are only 10 days left in October, my favorite month of all. It's getting cold, the leaves are turning, and in a couple more weeks I bet we'll have frost. It's time to turn my thinking toward the holiday shows I'll be doing with my partner in crime, Sheila Davis of Stone Designs (most of you know... she's my cool aunt!)...So here's a picture of the first of many holiday designs to come. Enjoy the rest of Autumn, everyone!!!

Happy Monday

Well, it's the beginning of the week, and I hope every one had a wonderful Mother's Day.  I sure did, I got to spend it with my husband, our two daughters, and lots of other loved ones.  We had a day-long picnic at the Ballard Locks on the Puget Sound, and it was a beautiful day.  These are pictures of my family taken yesterday... My husband Pat with our little one, Erin, and our oldest daughter Sarah in front of the wave sculpture.  That's me in the black and white top.  I thought instead of blogging about jewelry today, I'd introduce my family.  I hope everyone got to have some nice family time this weekend, and that your week gets off to a great start.  Happy Monday!

New Starfish

Today I am so excited to be doing something new with my clay!  I must first say a BIG thank you to Tina Holden for selling me the starfish molds, and for so generously sharing a great tutorial on how to use them!
I love it when artists are so kind and happy to share talent and knowledge with one another.
These adorable starfish were really fun to make, and I have a ton of ideas for using them in jewelry!  Of course new starfish jewelry will be appearing soon in my Etsy shop...fanceethat.etsy.com so keep looking!  If anyone would like to take a look at Tina's items, you can find her at http://beadcomber.artfire.com and http://beadcomber.etsy.com.

Happy April!

Happy April everyone!  As typical here in Washington State this time of year, we've had everything from hail, rain and wind to bright blue sky and sunshine today!
This is a new pair of earrings I made this morning...I'm giving a free pair of them away with purchases in April in my Etsy shop.  Now it's time (unfortunately) to walk away from the beads and go clean up the kitchen, ugh!

Treasury on Etsy

I just created a new treasury on Etsy...A treasury is a collection of hand picked items made by the talented artists who sell on Etsy.  Often treasuries have a theme, and today mine was southwestern colors.  Check it out!  http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=120674

Learning new things

I keep posting about polymer clay, which is not my main deal, but lately I am really fascinated by all the amazing stuff you can do with it.  I made these beads and this necklace two days ago, and I learned the technique from a book called Polymer Clay Color Inspirations by Lindly Haunani and Maggie  Maggio.
It was fun to make and I plan on making more, as the color ideas just keep flashing in my head!  I love to learn and delve deeper into my craft.  It's so rewarding to think back and say to myself, "Wow, I remember when I was so amazed by this, and now I'm actually doing it!"  So, keep on keepin' on, fellow artists...the journey is wonderful!

Design Contest

Happy Friday! I just placed my votes in the Beaded Impressions Winter beading contest. Of course I entered in all three categories...Eclectic, Contemporary, and Traditional. My entry numbers are 37, 73, and 85. I am in good company, there are some really great jewelry designs in this contest.
As for the polymer hearts I tried on Valentine's Day, well let's just say I need a little practice! Here's a picture of some pretty beads I did make. Happy weekend everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentines Day! Mine isn't going to be very romantic, but that's okay. My husband isn't home, he's a pilot, so he's gone a lot, but we make hay when the sun shines, right? Our oldest daughter is off to the mall with her friends, so it's the little one (Erin, our four year old)and me for the day. So...it's polymer clay time!
We're going to make a mess making beads! I'm even going to attempt some hearts in honor of today. I'll post some pictures later...the picture posted here is a bracelet I made with my beads. This bracelet was published in a magazine and is for sale in my Etsy shop. Have a wonderful day, whatever you do!

First post of my blog

Brand new to blogging, this is my first. I'd love to connect with other designers, and hear how everyone juggles the bead obsession with life's demands that pull us away from our beads (God forbid!)...I love to design, and often create in my sleep. I am a wife, mother, and wannabe Martha Stewart. I know I'm not the only one...

My jewelry design history began about nine years ago when I saw some adorable beaded key chains in a gift shop, saw the price tag, and said to myself "No way am I paying that price, I'll make 'em myself!" I started with one plastic bead box, and the result has been a joyful experience of learning and creating. I now sell my jewelry at many art shows and in my Etsy shop, and my designs have been published multiple times in Bead Trends Magazine.

I'm not sure yet what all I will be doing with my new blog, but I intend for it to be fun and open to possibilities...I look forward to hearing from fellow designers and jewelry lovers.

My jewelry and gift items can be seen at http://www.fanceethat.etsy.com
